Description

A deep teal-blue ground carries a large-scale allover vine lattice in warm ivory and sand, with lavender-grey and brown-gold flower heads filling each cell. The lattice structure runs corner to corner without a central medallion. A narrow ivory border frames the field cleanly. The close-up shows the pile sitting at medium density, with natural tonal variation visible across the deep teal ground.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Kelp · the asked & answered
The deep teal ground is the dominant visual element. How does this colour hold over years of use?

Deep saturated wool colours are fixed during the dyeing process and hold well under normal indoor conditions. The teal ground will not fade noticeably from foot traffic alone. Prolonged direct sunlight is the primary risk to colour depth over time; keeping the rug away from sustained sun exposure preserves the ground colour across the full field.

The lattice pattern is large-scale and structured. How should the rug be sized for a living room?

The 9x12 allows at least two full lattice repeats to read clearly within the seating area. The 10x14 gives the pattern more room across its full width. For both sizes, positioning the rug so the ivory border remains visible on all sides keeps the design properly framed. Front legs of main seating placed on the field works well.

Does this all-wool rug require any special care given the depth of the teal dye?

No special care is needed beyond standard wool maintenance. Vacuum on low suction without a beater bar. For spills, blot immediately with a dry, colourfast cloth, as some dyes can transfer slightly to light fabrics when wet. Do not rub. Rotate every 12 months. Professional cleaning is recommended annually for thorough maintenance of the deep-dyed wool pile.
