Description

Burnt sienna and terracotta run horizontally across the full surface, broken at intervals by threads of deep indigo and dark charcoal. No pattern organises the colour; the variation comes from the yarn itself, each row of knots carrying a slightly different mix of rust, ochre, and muted coral. The matte wool pile reads as a single warm field from a distance.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Abrash · the asked & answered
Will the colour variation across this rug change or fade with regular use?

The tonal shifts in this rug come from the yarn composition, not from surface treatment. Wool holds dye at the fibre level, so the variation between rust, terracotta, and indigo threads remains stable over time. Regular rotation distributes foot traffic evenly and prevents any one zone from wearing differently.

What interiors and floor types does this rug suit best?

The warm rust and terracotta palette works well against natural stone, polished concrete, and light oak flooring, all of which appear in the room context. The 9x12 or 10x14 sizes anchor open-plan rooms where a single large seating arrangement defines the space.

Does this wool construction shed, and how should it be maintained?

Some initial fibre release is normal with hand-knotted wool at this pile height. It reduces within the first few weeks of regular vacuuming on low suction. Avoid beater attachments. Blot any spills immediately; do not rub, as rubbing pushes liquid deeper into the pile.
