Description

A pale cool-white ground carries five near-black vertical lines running the full length of the field. Each line moves differently: two zigzag in wide angular chevrons, two undulate in loose curves, and one runs with only minor deviation. The lines do not align or mirror each other. The high pile fills the pale field with dense, even texture while the near-black channels sit compressed and deeply recessed against it.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Wave · the asked & answered
Does the vertical line orientation mean the rug has a fixed direction it should face in a room?

The lines run along the rug's length, so the design reads most naturally when oriented with the lines running away from the primary seating position rather than across it. This means positioning the rug so a viewer seated on the sofa looks along the lines toward the room's depth. Rotating the rug 90 degrees places the lines across the width, which changes the reading significantly and suits rooms where a horizontal movement is preferred.

How do the near-black channel lines maintain their depth and definition in a high-pile surface?

The channels are compressed at the pile base with dense high-pile walls on either side. Foot traffic along the line direction can gradually push the pile walls inward, softening the channel width. Vacuuming across the lines rather than along them helps keep the pile walls upright and the channel depth consistent. Professional cleaning once a year restores the full pile height and keeps the near-black channels reading with clarity against the pale ground.

What size and room type suits this rug's elongated five-line composition best?

The 9x12 and 10x14 both suit this design, with the longer dimension running along the line direction. A living room where the sofa sits parallel to the rug's short edge allows the full five-line sequence to be read from a seated position. In the lifestyle context, a curved sofa placed along one short edge gives the composition the most open reading across the full field.
