Description

Dark charcoal-grey holds the field, carrying a full Khotan-derived composition of scattered floral sprigs, two medallion roundels, and Greek-key corner devices in off-white and pale sand-ochre. The multi-border frame runs in chevron, stepped, and geometric bands. Horizontal abrash moves through the dark ground in bands of mid-grey and lighter slate, giving the surface its settled, varied character.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Vinefield · the asked & answered
How does an all-wool hand-knotted rug at this pile height perform under daily living room use?

Wool at a low pile height is among the most durable constructions for regular foot traffic. The tightly knotted structure holds the pile upright over years of use. Unlike higher-pile rugs, the surface does not flatten noticeably with moderate traffic, and the pattern definition stays intact without special maintenance beyond routine vacuuming.

The design has a formal border and allover pattern. What furniture arrangement works best with it?

The formal border structure means placement matters. For the 9x12, keep all four border bands visible by ensuring furniture legs sit within the field rather than over the border edges. The 10x14 accommodates larger seating groups fully within the field. The vertical medallion axis reads best when aligned with the room's primary seating direction.

Does all-wool construction shed, and how should this rug be broken in

New wool rugs shed lightly in the first few weeks of use as loose fibres from the manufacturing process work their way out. Vacuum regularly on low suction without a beater bar during this period. Shedding reduces significantly after the first month. The wool surface does not require any special break-in process and is ready for use immediately after unboxing.
