Description

Muted sage-green fills the field, carrying an intricate all-over pattern of elongated leaf forms, cypress-shaped motifs, and dense florals in dusty steel-blue, warm ivory, terracotta, and deep charcoal. The border steps to pale parchment ivory with a finer scrolling vine in the same palette. Pile reads medium, dense and well-resolved throughout.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

How does a dense all-over pattern on a green ground hold its definition as the pile wears over time?

Hand-knotted construction maintains motif edges because the knots are tied individually into the foundation rather than looped through a backing. As the pile wears, it does so evenly rather than selectively. Regular vacuuming on low suction removes surface debris that can obscure fine detailing, keeping the pattern sharp across the field.

What room and furniture tones work alongside a sage-green ground?

Terracotta, warm cognac leather, and burnt orange all complement the sage ground without competing with it. Raw concrete, warm oak flooring, and natural linen also sit well alongside this palette. The rug reads particularly well where surrounding surfaces are kept in earth tones rather than cool neutrals, which can flatten the green.

Is this rug suitable for a dining room, given the density of the pattern and the green ground?

Yes. The medium pile and hand-knotted construction make it durable enough for dining room use.
