Description

Fragmented medallion forms scatter across a near-black charcoal ground, their off-white and cool grey marks breaking apart before completing any clear shape. Sapphire blue threads surface intermittently through the field, neither framing nor filling, just present. A dissolved border runs the perimeter, barely distinguishable from the interior. A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Vault · the asked & answered
How does a dark wool rug perform under furniture over time?

Wool recovers well from compression, and hand-knotted construction distributes load across individual knots rather than a single backing layer. Dark grounds show furniture indentations less visibly than pale ones. Rotating the rug every 12 months prevents uneven pile compression.

What room size and furniture arrangement suits this rug?

In a standard living room, an 8x10 anchors a sofa and two chairs with front legs on the surface. For a larger drawing room where the full seating group sits within the field, a 9x12 or 10x14 provides the floor coverage the design needs to read fully.

Does a dark wool rug show dust or debris easily, and how should it be cleaned?

Dark grounds can show light-coloured debris such as pet hair or dust more readily than mid-tone rugs. Vacuuming on low suction without a beater bar, once or twice a week in high-use areas, keeps the surface clear. Blot any liquid spills immediately without rubbing.
