Description

Warm taupe-grey and pale silver-white shift across the field in broad, eroded passages, punctuated by near-black outlines enclosing irregular forms, faded crimson washes, and small notes of slate-blue. The silk pile catches at the silver-white zones while the taupe-grey wool passages absorb rather than reflect. No border contains the field. The surface reads differently depending on direction and distance.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

ow do the wool and silk zones wear differently in a regularly used living room?

Wool in the taupe-grey passages handles foot traffic well, maintaining its surface density over years of use. The silk at the raised silver-white zones is more sensitive to abrasion and performs best in moderate-use settings. Rotating annually distributes wear evenly so neither zone compresses ahead of the other.

What furniture arrangement makes the most of this design's two distinct visual registers?

Placing the main sofa along the upper field keeps the drawn elements visible behind the seating group, while the open lower field remains in front. The 9x12 suits a standard living room arrangement with front legs on the rug. The 10x14 allows the full horizontal composition to read without interruption from furniture legs.

Blot any spill on the silk-raised pale zones immediately with a clean dry cloth, working from the outer edge inward. Do not rub or apply water-based cleaners directly to silk.
