Description

Off-white silk lines draw a continuous triangular grid across a field of warm mushroom-brown and dark slate-grey wool. The grid does not sit on top of the surface. It cuts through it, dividing the field into triangular zones that each carry a different internal texture. Near-black passages surface where the darker wool zones cluster, giving the field tonal range beyond the two dominant grounds.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Truss · the asked & answered
The off-white silk lines form the grid structure. How do these raised lines hold up under chair legs or foot traffic crossing them repeatedly?

Silk at the higher pile along the grid lines is more surface-exposed than the wool zones within each triangle. In moderate-use rooms the lines hold well. Furniture coasters distribute weight away from direct contact with silk passages, and rotating the rug every 12 months prevents concentrated wear on fixed crossing points.

Does the all-over triangular grid make this rug directional? Does it matter which way it faces in the room?

The diagonal grid runs symmetrically in both directions, so the pattern reads consistently from any seated position. There is no single correct orientation. The rug can be placed with either long edge facing the main seating without the design losing its logic.

The field uses two distinct ground tones. Will the warm brown and slate-grey zones look balanced in a room with cool-toned walls and furniture?

The mushroom-brown and slate-grey sit close enough in value that neither dominates from a distance. In a room with cool concrete walls or grey upholstery, the brown zones add enough warmth to prevent the rug from reading as flat. The off-white grid lines provide separation and keep both tones readable simultaneously.
