Description

Amber, dusty blush, burnt sienna, and near-black sit inside a fragmented grid of mid-grey and off-white. The cell shapes suggest masonry or stacked forms, but each dissolves at its edges. Silk lifts the amber and blush passages above the wool ground, making the color contrasts physical as well as visual.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Tessell · the asked & answered
With so many colors in the design, how does this rug wear without looking faded or uneven over time?

Wool holds color well under regular use and resists compression evenly. Silk, sitting higher in the pile, carries the brighter tones and is more surface-facing. Rotating the rug every 12 months and vacuuming on low suction keeps both materials reading as intended.

What interior styles and floor types work best with this design?

The multi-tone palette suits rooms with concrete, stone, or pale hardwood floors where the rug becomes the primary source of color. The 9x12 and 10x14 sizes anchor a full seating group; the design reads best when visible in its entirety from a seated position.

Does the hi-low silk and wool construction shed or pill over time?

Wool may release short fibers during the first few weeks of use; this settles with regular vacuuming. Silk does not shed but can show pile direction in high-traffic areas. Professional cleaning annually keeps the hi-low surface in good condition long term.
