Description

A near-black ground carries a dense curvilinear vine scroll, its sinuous stems branching into large palmette rosettes and full-bodied floral heads in sage green, teal blue, dusty coral, amber gold, and ivory. The organic motifs fill the field without a geometric framework. A wide ivory border carries the same scrolling vine language in full color against a pale ground.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

How does a curvilinear vine scroll pattern hold up structurally compared to a geometric lattice construction?

Both pattern types use the same hand-knotted wool construction, so structural durability is equivalent. Curvilinear designs require the weaver to follow curved outlines at the knot level, which demands the same practiced repetition as geometric work. The finished pile holds the same density and long-term wear performance.

The near-black field is very dark. Will it make a room feel smaller or heavier?

Dark-ground rugs absorb floor space visually, which creates a grounding effect rather than a contracting one in rooms with adequate ceiling height or pale walls. The wide ivory border introduces a significant light perimeter, keeping the overall impression from reading as heavy. The rug shown in the lifestyle image sits well in a large, high-ceilinged room without reducing the sense of space.

Does the ivory border require more maintenance than the dark field?

Pale wool borders show surface dust and spills more visibly than dark grounds. Prompt blotting of any spills and regular low-suction vacuuming along the border keep it in good condition. Professional cleaning once a year addresses any accumulation along the perimeter that daily vacuuming does not fully reach.
