Description

Deep crimson and burnt-orange mass together across the upper field, pressing into a near-black ground. Cobalt-blue occupies the right register; forest-green moves along the lower edge; amber-gold and off-white break through where the darker forms thin. Six distinct colors carry full saturation here, each at silk pile height, with no single tone conceding ground to the others.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Surge · the asked & answered
With six fully saturated silk colors, is there a risk of any color appearing to fade faster than others over time?

Different hues have different UV sensitivities; reds and warm tones are generally more sensitive than blues and greens under sustained direct sunlight. In rooms with indirect or filtered natural light, all six tones hold their relative depth well. Annual professional cleaning and consistent rotation maintain the balance across the surface.

This is a very large-scale design. What is the minimum room size where it reads properly?

The 10x14 is the most suitable size for this design. A room of at least 16x20 feet allows the full color composition to be seen from a seated position without furniture obscuring the primary color masses. Smaller sizes compress the design and reduce its structural impact.

Does the near-black wool ground show dust or debris between the silk passages?

Dark wool can show pale surface dust more readily than mid-toned grounds. The near-black areas sit at the lower pile in this construction, which reduces surface exposure. Regular low-suction vacuuming keeps the dark ground clean and prevents surface debris from dulling the contrast between the wool and silk passages.
