Description

A mid steel-grey field carries a dispersed all-over floral vine in teal-blue, dark charcoal, and warm ivory, with abrash visible across the ground as lighter and darker grey zones shift through the field. A deep charcoal-grey border with teal guard stripes closes the composition with formal weight. The close-up reveals medium pile with directional sheen, motifs crisply resolved against the complex grey ground.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Stave · the asked & answered
Is the abrash in the grey field a defect, and will it become more or less pronounced over time?

Abrash is a natural characteristic of hand-knotted rugs, resulting from slight variations in wool dyeing across different batches used during knotting. It is not a defect; it is a mark of handmade production and is intentional in this design. Abrash does not become more pronounced with use and does not affect the structural integrity of the rug in any way.

What room and furniture styles suit a grey-on-grey rug with teal accents?

The lifestyle image shows the correct pairing: stone wall cladding, dark walnut joinery, concrete floors, and grey upholstery. The teal accents in the floral motifs connect naturally to blue-green natural stone and aged metal tones. The rug integrates into both cool-grey and warm-stone interiors without needing the surrounding palette to match it directly.

How does a medium pile wool rug with abrash age differently from a solid-dyed rug of the same construction?

Abrash rugs age gracefully because the tonal variation in the ground means any further tonal shift from use or sunlight reads as a continuation of the existing character rather than as damage. The grey field may develop slight warmth in high-traffic zones over many years. Rotating annually ensures any change distributes evenly rather than concentrating in one area.
