Description

Slate grey grounds an open field of upright botanical forms: tall feathered fronds, branching florals, and paired sunflower heads in pale straw and terracotta red. Dark navy foliage moves through the composition without crowding it. A warm parchment border with a dark charcoal inner band closes the design on all four sides.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Does the open field composition show wear or crushing more visibly than a denser pattern?

Wool pile in a hand-knotted construction recovers well from compression. The open field does make any directional pile shift more visible, so rotating the rug every 12 months keeps wear consistent and the surface reading evenly.

Which furniture arrangements suit this rug best, and what size works for a large living room?

The vertical field composition works well with furniture arranged along the length of the rug. A 10x14 accommodates a full seating group with all legs on the surface; a 9x12 suits a tighter arrangement with front legs only. Runners are also available for hallways.

Will the parchment border show soiling more quickly than the darker field?

Lighter border areas do show surface dust more readily. Regular vacuuming on low suction keeps them clean between professional cleanings. Blot any spills on the border immediately; the wool fiber resists liquid absorption briefly, giving adequate time to respond.
