Description

Horizontal lines of rose-pink, terracotta, golden ochre, dusty mauve, off-white, and crimson-red run continuously across a deep graphite ground, each colour stripe varying in width and intensity from row to row. No two adjacent rows carry the same colour sequence. Up close, the bamboo silk component lifts the coloured lines against the darker wool ground, giving each stripe a raised, slightly luminous quality.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Spectrum · the asked & answered
How do the multiple coloured lines in this wool and bamboo silk rug hold their individual colour clarity over time?

Each coloured line is knotted in separately dyed wool or bamboo silk, so colour clarity is built into the construction rather than applied to the surface. Regular vacuuming on low suction without a beater bar maintains the pile without affecting colour. Rotating every 12 months distributes wear evenly across the full striped surface.

What size suits a large open living room with a low white sectional and a dark wood coffee table?

A 10x14 suits this arrangement well, bringing the full sectional and coffee table within the field while the horizontal stripe pattern reads continuously across the floor plane. The borderless format and full-width stripes work best at larger sizes, where the colour sequence can complete itself across the visible surface beneath the furniture.

Does the bamboo silk in the coloured lines require different care from the wool ground?

The bamboo silk lifts the coloured rows slightly above the wool base, making those rows more sensitive to abrasion and moisture. Vacuum in the direction of the stripes, not across them, to avoid snagging the raised bamboo rows. For spills, blot immediately with a dry cloth. Annual professional cleaning by a specialist familiar with silk-blend rugs is recommended.
