Description

Deep crimson red dominates the field, shifting into a band of cool stone-grey through a horizontal transition built entirely through knotting density. Small diamond lattice forms run across the grey zone, visible as structure rather than ornament. The red carries flecks of dark charcoal throughout, giving the pile a raw, uneven quality that reads as depth rather than surface variation. Made in India

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Smolder · the asked & answered
How does the directional colour shift in this rug hold up under regular foot traffic?

The tonal shift between crimson and grey is built into the wool dye before knotting, not applied to the surface afterward. Regular foot traffic compresses the pile evenly without affecting colour. Rotating the rug every 12 months ensures the transition zone does not wear faster than the surrounding field

What size and placement works best for a large open living room?

A 9x12 works well when a sofa and accent chairs sit with front legs on the rug, with the directional shift running front to back from the primary seating position. For a more expansive open-plan space, a 10x14 allows the full seating group to sit within the field while the colour shift reads across the full span.

Does this all-wool rug require any special first-use care?

Vacuum on low suction without a beater bar before placing furniture. Some loose fibre from the knotting process will clear within the first few weeks of regular vacuuming. Avoid washing or steam cleaning at home. For deep cleaning, professional rug cleaning is recommended once a year.
