Description

Off-white dash lines trace an open diamond grid across a deep graphite-brown ground, the marks breaking and resuming across the full field without border or frame. The ground reads near-black at distance, warming to dark espresso-brown up close where the wool and bamboo silk blend surfaces between lines. The pile sits low and dense, the bamboo introducing a faint cool sheen against the dark ground.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Slate · the asked & answered
How does a dark wool and bamboo silk rug handle everyday dust and debris in a heavily furnished room?

Dark grounds show light-coloured debris such as dust and pet hair more readily than mid-tones. Vacuuming on low suction without a beater bar two to three times a week in high-traffic areas keeps the surface clear. The bamboo silk component is more sensitive to abrasion than wool, so avoid aggressive vacuuming passes over the same area repeatedly.

What size suits a living room with a large sectional and multiple seating pieces?

A 9x12 works well with a sectional sofa where front legs sit on the surface and the coffee table sits fully within the field. For a larger arrangement where the full seating group including accent chairs needs to sit within the rug, a 10x14 provides the coverage needed while keeping the dark ground reading as a continuous floor plane beneath the furniture.

Does the bamboo silk component in this dark rug affect how it responds to spills compared to all-wool construction?

Bamboo silk is more moisture-sensitive than wool and should not be saturated or scrubbed. For any liquid spill, blot immediately from the edge inward with a clean dry cloth. Do not rub. Allow the area to air dry fully before placing furniture back. Annual professional cleaning by a specialist familiar with silk-blend rugs is strongly recommended.
