Description

A dark iron-grey ground carries an all-over field of medallion rosettes, palmettes, and branching florals in terracotta red, antique ivory, warm ochre, and flashes of navy. The motifs sit close together without crowding. A formal scroll border contains the field without competing with it. Wool pile reads dense and matte throughout.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

How does an all-wool hand-knotted rug hold up in a high-traffic dining or living room?

Wool is naturally resilient and recovers well from compression under furniture legs and foot traffic. Hand-knotted construction distributes stress across individual knots, so the pile wears gradually and evenly rather than breaking down in patches.

What size works best for a living room with a large sectional or full furniture arrangement?

For a living room where all key furniture sits on the rug, a 10x14 anchors the space cleanly. A 9x12 works where front legs only are on the rug. Both sizes are available; runners and custom dimensions suit hallways and non-standard rooms.

Will this wool rug shed, and how should that be managed?

New wool rugs shed loose fibers for the first few months of use. Vacuum on low suction without a beater bar to remove them. Shedding reduces significantly with regular use and tapers off entirely once the pile settles.
