Description

A dense graphite ground carries a full-field symmetrical layout of scrolling vines, palmette florals, and leaf forms in cobalt blue, sky blue, crimson, warm sand, and off-white. The motifs hold sharp edges against the dark wool ground. No border interrupts the field. The matte surface sits flat and even throughout, with no pile variation between motif and ground.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Rook · the asked & answered
How well does a dark graphite wool ground hold its color depth under regular use?

Wool dyed at depth holds color reliably over time. The graphite ground may show lint or light debris more visibly than a pale ground, so regular low-suction vacuuming keeps the surface reading cleanly. Rotating the rug annually distributes foot traffic and prevents uneven fading in high-use areas.

What furniture scale and room type suits this rug's dense, symmetrical pattern?

The full-field layout reads best in rooms with enough floor space to see the design unobstructed. The 9x12 suits a living room with a primary sofa and two chairs; the 10x14 works well in open-plan spaces or formal drawing rooms. Front legs of seating resting on the rug keeps the composition anchored.

Does this rug shed, and how should it be maintained in the first year?

Some shedding from the wool pile is normal in the first few months and reduces with consistent care. Vacuum on low suction regularly, moving with the direction of the pile. Avoid high-powered uprights or beater-bar attachments, which can stress the knots. Professional cleaning once a year maintains both the pile density and the depth of the graphite ground.
