Description

Fine mid-grey lines draw large, irregular angular forms across an off-white and natural cream blended ground. The lines are thin and precise against the pale field, dividing it into wide open zones without filling them. Two zones in the upper field carry tightly spaced parallel hatching; the remaining field stays open. The close-up reveals a deep, soft pile with the grey lines sitting as inset marks rather than raised ridges.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Plane · the asked & answered
The off-white ground covers most of the surface. How practical is this in a regularly used living room?

A pale blended fibre ground requires consistent maintenance in daily-use rooms. Regular low-suction vacuuming prevents surface dust from settling into the deep pile. A quality rug pad beneath reduces transfer of debris from the floor. Spills should be blotted immediately. Annual professional cleaning keeps the natural ground reading cleanly over time.

The grey lines are very fine. Do they remain crisp after the rug is placed under furniture for extended periods?

The inset grey lines sit within the pile rather than on top of it, so they are less vulnerable to flattening under furniture than raised surface marks would be. The pile around the lines may compress slightly under heavy furniture legs; coasters distribute weight and protect both the pile and the line definition in fixed contact areas.

Does the natural cream and off-white blended ground look different under warm versus cool lighting?

The blended fibre ground shifts noticeably between light conditions. Warm incandescent or amber light brings the cream tones forward, giving the surface a softer, more golden character. Cool daylight or LED emphasizes the off-white and makes the grey lines read with more contrast. Both readings suit the design; neither is incorrect.
