Description

Pale warm-grey and natural oat tones move across the full surface in an unbroken horizontal field, with no mark, motif, or pattern of any kind. Warm tan and cool silver-grey shift between each other through the knotting without clear boundary or edge. Up close, the bamboo silk within the blend gives the surface a faint, even sheen that keeps the near-plain ground from reading as flat.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Plain · the asked & answered
How does a near-plain wool and bamboo silk surface perform under a large low-platform sofa in regular use?

The low pile and hand-knotted foundation distribute furniture load evenly across the surface. Bamboo silk fibres are more sensitive to sustained compression than wool, so furniture pads beneath platform legs help maintain the surface quality at contact points. Rotating the rug every 12 months ensures the full surface wears evenly rather than developing visible compression zones.

What size suits a double-height loft living room with a platform sofa, two accent chairs, and a low coffee table?

A 10x14 gives a large open-plan loft arrangement the floor coverage needed to read as intentional rather than incidental. The borderless plain surface scales to larger sizes without losing its character. At this size the platform sofa, accent chairs, and coffee table all sit within the field, with open ground visible around the furniture edges.

Does the plain neutral surface show wear or compression marks more visibly than a patterned rug?

Plain surfaces show localised compression under furniture legs more visibly than patterned rugs, because there is no visual complexity to absorb the variation. Using furniture pads and rotating the rug every 12 months significantly reduces this. The bamboo silk in the blend is slightly more susceptible to sheen change under compression than pure wool, so pad protection at contact points is particularly recommended for this surface.
