Description

A deep teal-blue mass occupies the upper field, dissolving at its edges into silver-grey and broken off-white. The hi-low construction makes this dissolution physical. Silk rises through the teal passages with a faint sheen; wool holds the surrounding grey field lower and flatter. No border. The surface reads differently from every angle.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Pelion · the asked & answered
How does the hi-low pile hold up over time in a living room setting?

Wool at the lower pile height handles foot traffic and compression well. Silk, sitting higher, is more delicate and benefits from moderate rather than heavy use. Rotating the rug every 12 months distributes wear across the surface evenly.

What room size and furniture arrangement suits this rug best?

The 10x14 gives the abstract field enough space to read fully from a seated position. Front legs of a sofa and chairs on the surface, with the central motif visible beneath or beyond a coffee table, works well for the design's scale.

Does the silk in a hi-low construction require different care than standard wool rugs?

Silk is more sensitive to moisture and abrasion than wool. Blot spills immediately without rubbing. Avoid steam cleaning or wet extraction methods. Professional dry cleaning is the recommended approach for deeper maintenance.
