Description

Cobalt-blue and powder-blue fragments scatter across a warm greige wool ground, with amber-gold and dark olive-brown surfacing between them. No single color claims more than a fraction of the field. The hi-low construction keeps cobalt silk elevated and readable above the flatter greige ground, while the olive and gold passages add a restrained earthiness to what would otherwise read as a cool palette.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Patina · the asked & answered
How does the scattered color pattern wear over time; will the blue patches fade unevenly?

Silk holds dye well under normal indoor conditions and resists uneven fading with consistent care. The scattered placement means no single passage bears disproportionate foot traffic. Rotating the rug every 12 months and keeping it out of prolonged direct sunlight maintains the color balance across the field.

The warm greige ground is distinctive. What flooring and furniture tones work best with it?

The greige ground sits comfortably on pale oak, washed timber, or warm limestone floors. Walnut or medium-brown wood furniture reinforces the ground tone without dulling the blue. White or linen upholstery lets the cobalt read clearly. The 10x14 gives a large sectional enough room to anchor the full composition.

With multiple materials at different pile heights, is this rug difficult to vacuum without damaging the surface?

Low-suction vacuuming in the direction of the pile works well for this construction. Avoid rotating brush attachments, which can stress silk at the higher pile. A suction-only head moved steadily across the surface keeps both the wool and silk passages in good condition.
