Description

Distinct rectangular blocks of coral-red and teal-blue sit at irregular intervals across a pale silver-grey ground built from dense horizontal striations. The blocks are filled with the same striated mark-work as the ground, so they read as colour zones rather than solid forms. Warm amber-ochre passages drift through the ground between the blocks, dissolved and low in saturation.

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Do the coral-red and teal-blue blocks hold their saturation against the pale grey ground over years of regular use?

Both colours are dyed at the fiber level before knotting and maintain their saturation well under normal indoor conditions. The contrast between the coloured blocks and the pale grey ground remains clear with regular low-suction vacuuming and annual rotation. Avoiding prolonged direct sunlight preserves the saturation difference between all three colour zones.
