Description

Off-white silk traces dense, interlocking loop marks across a steel-blue and silver-grey wool ground. The marks read as overlapping script or cracked surface at a distance; up close they resolve into individual raised lines. Slate-blue pools beneath and between them, surfacing where the silk loops thin out or break.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Mesh · the asked & answered
With silk covering most of the surface, how durable is this rug in a living room used daily?

The wool ground carries the structural foundation and handles compression from furniture and foot traffic. Silk at the higher pile contributes the surface character. In a living room with regular but moderate use, the construction performs well. High-traffic paths benefit from a rug pad and consistent rotation.

This design is very detailed. Does it work in smaller rooms or only large spaces?

The looping surface mark reads well at any size, but the full field effect is strongest in rooms where the rug can be seen from a standing or seated distance. The 9x12 suits most living rooms; the 10x14 allows the overall tone and pattern density to register without furniture covering too much of it.

Does the raised silk surface show footprints or pile disturbance more than a flat pile would?

The looped silk texture at higher pile is more directional than a flat cut pile. Footprints and pile shift can appear in well-used areas. Vacuuming in the direction of the pile on low suction settles this. The dense coverage of the design also means minor pile variation reads as part of the surface rather than damage.
