Description

A large stepped diamond medallion anchors a misty blue-grey field, its ivory surround carrying the form from the ground before the golden ochre geometric interior takes over. The outer border runs in burnt copper, dense with off-white rosette forms that repeat at even intervals. Up close, the pile reveals a medium-high wool surface with clean colour separation between the blue field, ochre medallion, and copper border. Made in India

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Hand-knotted construction sets each colour boundary knot by knot into the foundation, so geometric edges hold their definition as the pile wears. The medium-high pile in this rug compresses gradually and evenly. Rotating the rug every 12 months prevents any single zone, particularly the central medallion area, from wearing ahead of the field.

What size works for a living room where this medallion needs to be centred under a seating group?

A 9x12 centres the medallion well beneath a standard sofa-and-chairs arrangement, with the coffee table sitting directly over the medallion and front furniture legs on the field.
