Description

Fine horizontal ribbing runs the full width of a pale silver-grey ground, the lines built from alternating off-white and cool grey wool rows that give the surface a woven, corded quality. Scattered slate-blue marks break the horizontal field at irregular intervals, each one sitting like a brushstroke rather than a repeat. The pile reads almost flat, the bamboo silk introducing a faint cool sheen across the ribbed surface.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Loom · the asked & answered
How does the ribbed surface construction of this wool and bamboo silk rug hold up in a frequently used living room?

The horizontal ribbing is built into the knotting structure itself, not applied as a surface treatment, so it maintains its character as the pile compresses with regular use. Bamboo silk fibres are more delicate than wool under heavy furniture, so using furniture pads beneath legs helps distribute load and prevents premature compression at contact points.

What size suits a living room with a single leather armchair and a low wood side table?

For a smaller seating arrangement with one chair and a side table, an 8x10 provides a generous field that allows the rug to read as a floor plane rather than just a chair mat. The ribbed surface reads best with open floor space around the furniture, so sizing up slightly is preferable to fitting the rug tightly beneath the seating only.

Does the bamboo silk component affect how the ribbed texture looks over time?

Bamboo silk fibres can flatten slightly in high-compression zones, such as under chair legs, over time. This affects the sheen at those points more than the wool ribbing itself. Rotating the rug every 12 months redistributes compression across the surface. Avoid beater-bar vacuuming, which can distort the ribbed pile structure in bamboo silk blends.
