Description

Large palmette and leaf forms scatter across a denim blue ground, connected by off-white lattice stems that divide the field into a loose diamond grid. Crimson red and warm olive fill the secondary blooms, with golden tan carrying the larger floral heads. A soft ivory border runs its own dense floral-and-leaf register, the contrast between the deep blue field and pale border giving the composition its primary structure. Made in India

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Indigo · the asked & answered
How does the lattice structure in this rug maintain its definition under regular foot traffic?

The off-white lattice stems are knotted directly into the foundation alongside the blue ground, so the line work holds its edge as the pile compresses with use. Hand-knotted construction means no colour bleeds into adjacent zones over time. Rotating the rug every 12 months prevents the central lattice area from wearing ahead of the border.

What size works best for a living room with a sofa, leather chair, and stone coffee table?

A 9x12 fits this arrangement well, with the sofa and leather chair front legs on the surface and the coffee table sitting fully within the lattice field. For a larger room where the full seating group including side tables needs to sit within the ivory border, a 10x14 provides the coverage needed.

Does the denim blue ground show fading differently than lighter-ground rugs in sun-facing rooms?

Deeper grounds like denim blue absorb more light energy than pale grounds, which can accelerate colour shift in rooms with prolonged direct sun exposure. Rotating the rug every 12 months distributes any light exposure evenly. In rooms with significant south or west-facing windows, a UV-filtering window treatment helps preserve colour over the long term.
