Description

Large palmette and leaf forms scatter across a denim blue ground, connected by off-white lattice stems that divide the field into a loose diamond grid. Crimson red and warm olive fill the secondary blooms, with golden tan carrying the larger floral heads. A soft ivory border runs its own dense floral-and-leaf register, the contrast between the deep blue field and pale border giving the composition its primary structure. Made in India

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

The off-white lattice stems are knotted directly into the foundation alongside the blue ground, so the line work holds its edge as the pile compresses with use. Hand-knotted construction means no colour bleeds into adjacent zones over time. Rotating the rug every 12 months prevents the central lattice area from wearing ahead of the border.
