Description

Warm wheat-beige holds the ground, with loose pooling forms in pale ice-blue and near-black charcoal moving across the surface without fixed placement. Thin dark lines trail across the field in sweeping arcs. The hi-low construction lifts the silk where the blue and white accumulate, giving those zones a raised, textured surface against the flatter wool ground beneath.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Gust · the asked & answered
How does the hi-low construction affect the way this rug wears over time?

The wool base plane absorbs the majority of foot traffic, while the raised silk zones sit above it and experience less direct pressure. The distinction between the two pile heights may soften gradually in heavily used areas, which is a natural development of the construction rather than damage. Placement in a living or drawing room with moderate foot activity keeps the hi-low contrast defined longest.

What room size and furniture arrangement works best for this design?

The open, gestural composition reads most fully from a distance. The 10x14 suits a large living room where the full sweep of the arc lines and blue pooling zones can be seen from across the space. The 9x12 works well when a single seating group defines the room. The pale wheat-beige ground pairs well with white plaster, marble, and linen-toned furniture, as shown in the room context.

Can the raised silk areas be spot-cleaned at home if needed?

Surface dust on silk can be removed with very light, low-suction vacuuming in the direction of the pile. For spills, blot immediately with a clean dry cloth without rubbing. Do not apply water directly to silk zones. Any stain that penetrates beyond the surface should be handled by a professional cleaner experienced with silk pile; home treatment risks permanent damage to the raised fibre.
