Description

A full ruby-red field carries an allover floral vine composition, the stems curving in warm olive-green and golden tan between large blooms rendered in steel blue, pale sky, and soft ivory. A cream-ivory border frames the field with its own dense floral register. The pile sits medium-high, the wool dense and close-cut, with strong colour separation between the red ground and each motif. A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

How does a densely patterned ruby-red wool rug perform under a full seating group over time?

Hand-knotted construction distributes furniture load across individual knots rather than a single backing layer, so the pile holds its structure well under regular use. The medium-high pile in this rug recovers from compression when furniture is moved. Rotating every 12 months prevents the central seating zone from wearing faster than the border areas.

What size works for a formal living room with a large sofa and two accent chairs?

A 9x12 centres the allover composition beneath a standard three-seat sofa and two accent chairs, with all front legs on the surface and the coffee table sitting fully within the field. For a larger drawing room where the full group including side tables needs to sit within the border, a 10x14 provides the necessary coverage.

Does the ruby-red ground fade with vacuuming or in rooms with significant natural light?

Wool dye penetrates the fibre during processing, so regular vacuuming on low suction does not affect colour. Prolonged direct exposure to strong sunlight over several years can cause gradual colour shift in any wool rug. Rotating the rug every 12 months distributes any light exposure evenly across the surface.
