Description

Off-white diagonal chevrons and concentric diamond outlines tile the field in a dense all-over repeat over a dark charcoal blended ground. Small cross-and-diamond accent motifs sit at each repeat intersection. A formal border carries the same vocabulary in a compressed register, framing the field on all four sides. The close-up reveals the off-white pile sitting higher than the charcoal ground, giving the pattern physical as well as tonal presence.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Fret · the asked & answered
The pattern is very dense across both the field and the border. Does it read as busy in a room with other visual elements?

The two-tone palette of off-white and charcoal keeps the density controlled. From a normal viewing distance the pattern reads as a tonal texture rather than a complex motif field. In rooms with plain walls and solid upholstery, the density adds surface interest without competing. Heavily patterned textiles elsewhere in the room would create visual conflict.

The border frames the field formally. Does this make the rug feel more traditional in contemporary interiors?

The border sits within a reduced palette and a blended fibre construction that both read as contemporary. The formal framing provides proportion and containment rather than historical reference. In rooms with clean architectural lines and natural materials, the border reads as a structural decision rather than a stylistic one.

How does the blended fibre construction hold the fine off-white motif lines over time in a well-used room?

The off-white pile sitting at the higher position is more surface-exposed than the darker ground. In moderate daily use, the construction holds well. Regular low-suction vacuuming keeps the motif lines reading clearly. Rotating the rug every 12 months distributes wear away from fixed foot traffic paths, which is particularly important for a fine all-over repeat like this one.
