Description

Pale silver-grey holds the ground, divided into loosely defined rectangular fields of dusty blush-pink, warm sand-ochre, soft celadon-green, and near-black charcoal. Thin dark lines traverse the zones without following the field boundaries. The hi-low construction raises the silk where the colour fields sit densest, giving each zone its own surface relief against the worn grey ground between them.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

With multiple colour fields in the silk zones, does any one area wear differently than others over time?

All colour fields share the same hi-low construction, so the pile height and fibre composition are consistent across every zone. Wear develops evenly across the surface under normal use. Annual rotation distributes foot traffic across different sections, preventing any single colour zone from compressing ahead of the others.

What interior palette works best alongside this multi-toned surface?

The pale silver-grey ground gives the rug flexibility. The blush, ochre, and celadon fields each echo different warm and cool tones already common in natural plaster interiors, light oak floors, and leather or linen furniture, as seen in the room context. Rooms with a restrained wall palette benefit most, as the floor carries the colour range without competition from above.

How should this wool and silk surface be handled if a spill reaches one of the raised silk colour zones?

Blot immediately with a clean dry cloth, pressing without rubbing. Different colour zones may respond differently to moisture depending on dye composition; treating them uniformly with blotting rather than scrubbing protects all zones equally. Do not apply water directly. For any spill that penetrates the pile, professional cleaning is the appropriate next step.
