Description

Pale sage-grey and soft ivory hold the ground, divided by loosely drawn large forms: an open loop, a rectangular grid, a partial arc, a circle. These shapes sit in charcoal, warm brown, and mid-grey, their edges eroded into the worn ground. The hi-low construction lifts the silk where the forms concentrate, giving the marks physical presence above the lower wool field.

How does the hi-low construction hold the large forms visually over years of use?

The raised silk zones that carry the charcoal and brown forms sit above the wool ground by design. Under living room traffic, the height differential holds well. The forms stay readable because the contrast between silk and wool is built into the knot structure, not the surface treatment. Annual rotation keeps wear distributed evenly so no single form degrades faster than others.

What room scale and seating arrangement suits this design best?

The large-scale forms read most fully from above and from a distance, making the 10x14 the natural fit for a spacious living room with multiple seating pieces, as shown in the room context. A high-ceilinged or open-plan room allows the full composition to be seen. The 9x12 works when a single primary sofa defines the arrangement and the rug extends well beyond it on all sides.

How should the eroded silk surface within the forms be maintained?

The broken, textured quality within the forms is an intentional characteristic of the construction, not damage. Vacuum on low suction in the direction of the pile. The eroded silk zones are more sensitive to abrasion than the wool ground; avoid high-suction settings or beater attachments directly over those areas. Professional cleaning annually preserves both the silk texture and the wool base.
