Description

A warm silver-grey ground carries a dense field of broken cross-hatching in rust-brown, dark burgundy, and charcoal. No border contains it. The pattern dissolves at the edges. Silk cuts through the wool pile at varied heights, sharpening some lines while others recede into the matte ground. The hi-low construction makes the surface read differently from every angle.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Crosslet · the asked & answered
How does the wool and silk construction hold up in a frequently used living room?

Wool provides the structural foundation and resists compression well under regular foot traffic. Silk, used selectively in the hi-low pile, is more delicate. Avoid placement in high-traffic pathways. A rug pad extends the surface life of both fibers significantly.

What size works best for a standard living room, and how should furniture sit on it?

The 9x12 works well for most living rooms, with front legs of seating resting on the rug. For larger, open-plan spaces, the 10x14 anchors a full seating arrangement. Rounds and squares suit defined reading corners or dining settings with a central table.

Does this rug shed, and how should it be cleaned over time?

Wool rugs may shed lightly in the first few months of use. This reduces with regular low-suction vacuuming. Avoid steam cleaning or wet washing at home. Professional dry cleaning once a year keeps both the wool and silk in good condition without stressing the fibers.
