Description

A cool silver-grey ground carries the same panelled tribal vocabulary as its beige counterpart, but the palette here shifts entirely: sky-blue, cornflower-blue, near-black, and warm straw-gold replace the warmer tones, giving the field a quieter, more restrained register. Upright cypress trees, cross-hatched columns, and geometric fills distribute across the panels against the grey ground. The border runs in a warm sand-beige with a tight geometric repeat.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

How does the cool silver-grey ground read in rooms with warm timber floors?

Silver-grey wool grounds sit well against both pale and warm timber floors. Against bleached or natural oak, the grey reads as part of the room's cool register. Against darker or warmer timber, it provides contrast without conflict. The sand-beige border acts as a transitional zone that eases the rug into warmer floor surfaces visually.

The motifs are very fine and small-scale. Does their detail survive under foot traffic and furniture weight?

Low-pile hand-knotted wool maintains fine geometric detail well over years of use. Each motif is individually knotted, so the definition of small elements is structurally fixed rather than surface-applied. Furniture legs compress the pile locally but do not erase the pattern. Rotating annually distributes compression evenly, preserving detail across the full field.

How does the silver-grey wool ground respond to spills compared to warmer or darker grounds?

Silver-grey wool shows wet spills immediately but does not stain as visibly as a pale ivory ground once dry. Blot any spill promptly with a dry cloth without rubbing.
