Description

Pale ice-blue holds the ground across most of the field, with ink-black, warm sand-gold, and deep teal massing toward the center and upper half. The composition pulls heavily to one side, leaving the lower field nearly bare. Silk rises within the gold and teal concentrations, pushing those zones forward against the receding wool ground. No edge or border interrupts the surface.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Coldmass · the asked & answered
How does the hi-low construction between wool and silk affect the rug's durability?

Wool forms the structural base and handles regular foot traffic reliably. Silk, concentrated in the gold and teal areas, sits higher in the pile and is more sensitive to abrasion. Placing the rug so heavier foot traffic falls across the wool-dominant ice-blue zones protects the silk considerably.

Which size and placement works best given the rug's off-center composition?

The 9x12 suits most living rooms. Because the design masses toward one half of the field, orient the rug so the denser color cluster sits beneath or adjacent to the primary seating piece. The 10x14 gives the composition more breathing room in larger spaces.

Does wool shed, and what should be expected in the first few months?

Light shedding from the wool pile is normal in the early months of use and diminishes with regular vacuuming on low suction. Avoid pulling loose fibers; trim them with scissors instead. The silk areas do not shed but benefit from gentle handling during cleaning.
