Description

Small ivory squares sit within a near-black charcoal ground in a dense, all-over repeat across the full field. The squares are irregular in edge definition, each one slightly different from the next due to the blended fibre knotting process. The surface reads as a dark, textured field from a distance; up close, the ivory breaks through in small, scattered openings that give the ground its variation.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Cobble · the asked & answered
Does a dark charcoal ground show lint and light debris more than a pale ground rug?

Yes, a dark ground picks up light-coloured lint and pet hair more visibly than a mixed or pale surface. Regular low-suction vacuuming manages this effectively. The blended fibre texture also means debris tends to sit on the surface rather than embedding deeply, making routine maintenance straightforward.

How does this rug perform under a seating arrangement with frequent daily use?

Blended fibres at a medium-low pile height handle regular foot traffic well. The dark ground is forgiving of everyday wear patterns, as minor compression reads less visibly against a deep tone than it would on a pale surface. Rotating the rug every twelve months keeps wear distributed evenly across the full field.

What room types and colour palettes work best with this dark-ground surface?

The near-black charcoal ground anchors rooms carrying pale walls, soft upholstery, or strong accent colours. It works well in living rooms and drawing rooms where the floor needs to provide visual weight without adding pattern complexity. The 9x12 suits most living rooms; the 10x14 works in larger spaces where the dark ground can be seen fully from a seated position.
