Description

Brick-red, near-black, warm straw-gold, powder-blue, and mid-grey collide across the field in large angular forms with no shared axis. Each zone carries a different surface character: the red erodes into off-white fragments, the black sits dense and flat, the gold rises at a higher silk pile. No ground color ties the composition together.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Clash · the asked & answered
With such saturated colors across the field, does this construction risk colors bleeding into each other over time?

Hand-knotted wool and silk are dyed independently before knotting. Colors are fixed at the fiber level and do not bleed or migrate during use or cleaning. Each zone holds its tone separately, regardless of the contrast between adjacent colors.

This design has very strong color. What kind of room can absorb it without the space feeling overwhelming?

Rooms with large floor areas, neutral walls, and concrete or pale stone floors give the design the space to function as intended. The 10x14 allows the full angular composition to sit under a seating group without the edges of the design disappearing beneath furniture.

The near-black zones are large. Does dark wool at a lower pile show dust or wear differently than the silk passages?

Dark wool at the lower pile can show pale surface dust more readily than mid-toned areas. Regular low-suction vacuuming addresses this. The silk passages at higher pile are more surface-exposed but hold color well. Rotating the rug every 12 months distributes any wear across all zones evenly.
