Description

Saturated violet-purple and deep indigo-purple spread across a pale silver-grey ground in large, cloud-like masses with no fixed edges. The close-up reveals the hi-low construction working at its most visible: silk holds the purple at full saturation and height, wool pulls the grey passages flat and cool beneath it. The contrast here is stark and immediate.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Bruise · the asked & answered
Does deeply saturated silk dye hold its color under regular indoor conditions?

Silk accepts and retains dye at high intensity and remains stable under normal indoor use. Prolonged direct sunlight is the primary risk for any dyed silk surface. Rooms with filtered or indirect natural light preserve the saturation over the long term.

What furniture and floor combinations work with a predominantly purple rug?

The silver-grey wool ground provides a natural buffer. Dark walnut, ebony-stained wood, or black metal furniture frames let the purple read without amplifying it. Pale concrete or light stone floors beneath keep the overall composition from becoming heavy.

With such a strong color, how should this rug be maintained to prevent the purple from dulling?

Vacuum on low suction regularly, moving in the direction of the pile. Avoid wet cleaning methods. Professional dry cleaning annually keeps the silk passages at full depth. Rotating every 12 months prevents any uneven fading from fixed furniture shadow or foot traffic patterns.
